When I heard about “Hit Man”, I was ecstatic. I love movies about contract killers, but I love the idea of flipping the whole idea on its head even more, which this film does with finesse. Glen Powell has been proudly showing off his acting chops as of late, and his role as Gary further solidified that as a fact. Adria Arjona was sleek, provocative, and performative as hell as Madison. She nailed this role, and her chemistry with Glen on screen would have you thinking they are a real couple. These two absolutely carried this film and gave the already awesome script the extra “oomph” it needed. I know Powell had a part in the screenplay, but he helped do it justice. This wasn’t an Ed Norton-type situation, this was a blessing, and boy, it was beautiful. This movie brought sexy back, and I’m not joking. Too many films are scared to get saucy, but if done the right way, it can service the plot quite a lot. In this case, each promiscuous scene was shot with integrity and direction, it wasn’t like I was just watching porn (which some media feels like, *cough* Euphoria). I love me a good sexy action/comedy movie, so I hope this film shows Hollywood that I’m not the only one who shares this sentiment.

This movie did not at all play out as I expected after watching the previews. I expected the fake hitman plot line and the love story, but I did not anticipate who the antagonist of this film would be. I expected it to be angry mafia members, other contract killers, or friends of Madison’s ex-husband but no, the real answer will have you shocked. I won’t spoil it here, but this film has some really good twists for a rom-com. Don’t think that last remark means I hate rom-coms, I adore rom-coms. I just did not expect what we got from this movie and it was beautiful. It was almost enough to bring me to tears. I enjoyed this film so much, and I cannot wait to watch it again. This movie highlights the life of the real Gary Johnson (R.I.P) with dignity and a flair that I doubt would’ve been gained had it been done any other way by anyone else. This film will have you feeling like a new person when it’s over, just like Gary.
